Pigeon Forge | USA 2018

Hiking to Clingmans Dome, the highest point east of the Mississippi with views spanning seven states, made our Pigeon Forge family vacation unforgettable.

In 2018, our family set off for a fun-filled vacation in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, a charming town tucked into the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. We rented a cozy log cabin down a quiet country road, complete with a community swimming pool and a private hot tub inside the cabin—perfect for unwinding after busy days of adventure. The rustic charm of the cabin combined with modern comforts made it the ideal home base for our mountain getaway.

No trip to Pigeon Forge would be complete without a visit to Dollywood, and we made it twice! From thrilling roller coasters to lively musical performances, the park is a delightful mix of excitement and Southern charm. Between the rides, we also took time to marvel at the stunning mountain vistas and soak up the quirky, kitschy atmosphere of the local restaurants and attractions, each with its own unique personality.

One day, we drove through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most visited national parks in the United States. Its mist-covered peaks and lush forests are breathtaking year-round. Inspired by the scenery, we decided to tackle Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the eastern United States at 6,643 feet. Even with a stroller and a sleeping Braden in tow, we made it to the summit, where panoramic views stretch across seven states—a truly awe-inspiring reward for the climb.

While the natural beauty and attractions were unforgettable, the absolute highlight of our trip came thanks to a local farmer who had a field across from our cabin. On the Fourth of July, we were able to witness an incredible, professional-grade fireworks show that lasted over an hour. Watching the sky light up in a dazzling display while surrounded by the mountains was pure magic, and it’s a memory that our family still talks about with awe.

From adventure in the mountains to amusement park thrills, and ending with one of the most spectacular fireworks shows we’ve ever seen, our Pigeon Forge trip was a perfect blend of nature, fun, and family memories. It reminded us why the Smoky Mountains remain such a beloved destination for families and travelers alike.
